Job Location: Coquitlam, BC

Salary Range: $55,000 - $60,000/ yearly 

Job Description: The Payroll Administrator is responsible for processing bi weekly payroll for over 1000 union, non-union, and hourly employees while ensuring a safe and professional work environment, which fosters BEST culture, mission, and values.  The incumbent is responsible for completing various activities including but not limited to processing payroll, investigating payroll discrepancies, reconciliations, reporting, while staying up-to-date with Employment Standards and collective agreements.  The ideal candidate will demonstrate superior performance in accordance to the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) requirements, anticipate and adapt to change as needed and must be able to communicate clearly and effectively.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Process payroll for over 1000 union, non-union, and hourly employees;
  • Process garnishments and off-cycle payments as needed;
  • Investigate payroll discrepancies & handle T4 related inquiries;
  • Personnel file maintenance (new hires, re-hires, rate changes, personal info changes etc.)
  • Process terminations and ROE’s:
  • Communicate Time and Attendance errors to Team Lead
  • Maintain & update training portal (remove terminated employees from portal);
  • Reconciliations & reports (payroll, union dues report, seniority report, & more);
  • Provide Payroll and Time & Attendance systems training for new Salaried staff;
  • Remain up-to-date with Employment Standards, union collective agreements, and company policies;
  • Suggest changes and up dates to payroll guide
  • Other duties as required.

Skills Required: 

  • Basic accounting knowledge;
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Outlook, & intermediate knowledge of Excel);
  • Excellent interpersonal & communicational (written & verbal) skills;
  • Thorough understanding of BC, AB, & ON labour laws;
  • A focus on accuracy and completeness of reporting & analysis;
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines;
  • Strong organizational, time management, & problem solving skills;
  • Must be able to work independently with little supervision & in a team environment.

Education & Experience: 

  • Canadian Payroll Association PCP certification, or working toward designation will be considered an asset;
  • Minimum 2 years full cycle payroll experience in a high-volume environment with union and non-union, hourly payroll;
  • Experience using ADP Workforce Now considered an asset;
  • Acceptable security and criminal record check.
